The renowned Forbes magazine recently released the result of a study that listed the safest airlines in the world. Portuguese TAP is in the TOP 6.

After a pandemic period that forced communities to isolate themselves to contain the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19, the natural consequence of the drastic reduction of people moving between countries has strongly affected the civil aviation sector. Despite the pandemic, the safety of air transport has never been compromised. Airlines have always made every effort to ensure the safety of their passengers and crew, to provide preventive and hygiene equipment, and to comply with the contagion prevention rules launched by each country. As a result, there were no known accidents during the pandemic period attributed to Covid.

After a very difficult period, together with advances in disease prevention, the aviation sector is seeing positive progress and a steady return to normality.

TAP in TOP 6

This list of the 20 safest airlines in the world is released annually by AirlineRatings.com. To formulate it, several performance factors are considered, such as the age of the fleet, serious accidents, fatalities, audits by supervisory bodies and industry regulatory bodies, best safety practices, among others. Therefore, the airlines on this list stand out for being ahead in safety and innovation.

At the top of the safest airlines is the century-old Australian airline Qantas, followed by Air New Zealand, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines. Just below, in sixth place, comes the Portuguese TAP.

AirlineRatings.com also discloses the categories by which it has rated each airline, what score it has assigned in each category and the evaluation criteria that produced that score. TAP managed to get the highest score in the safety category, i.e. 7/7. The safety assessment criteria is based on a comprehensive analysis of the history of pilot-related accidents and incidents, and then combines this information with audit reports from global civil aviation regulators such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
